Support a Child

2023-2024

Pr. Mishti Bodhal

10.3 YEARS

Mishti, just 4 months old, began experiencing troubling symptoms such as excessive crying and bluish discoloration of her lips. Concerned, her parents consulted Dr. Saran Gupta, who suspected a congenital heart defect (CHD) and referred them to Dr. Kohli. In 2014, an echocardiogram confirmed that Mishti had CHD.

In 2015, Mishti underwent a pulmonary valve balloon dilatation at BLK Hospital and continued with regular follow-ups.

By 2017, she required another surgery, the BD Glenn, which was funded by the Child Heart Foundation (CHF) and successfully performed at MAX Hospital.

Dr. Kohli had advised that Mishti would need a Fontan procedure within 2-3 years.

However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and some personal challenges, her family did not follow up for 3-4 years. On December 14, 2023, Mishti returned to CHF with new complaints of exertional fatigue and breathlessness.

Dr. Kohli recommended the Fontan procedure as a priority. Mishti was registered under the Hridaan Program to receive financial assistance, as her father could not cover the surgery costs. Mishti was admitted to the hospital on August 6, 2024, and successfully underwent the Fontan surgery on August 8, 2024.

She was discharged on August 14, 2024.Mishti was placed on a regular follow-up schedule and was expected to continue improving. Her father was deeply thankful for the support from Dr. Kohli, CHF, and the generous donors who had helped his family during this challenging time. They were filled with gratitude as they saw Mishti on the path to a healthier future.
