Five-month-old Sudiksha from Chhattisgarh was a bundle of joy for her young parents. Her father, a freshly graduated advocate, had dreamed of a bright future for his family.
However, their happiness was soon overshadowed when Sudiksha, at just one month old, developed a persistent fever. A visit to the local doctor revealed a heart murmur, leading to an urgent echocardiogram. The results from a private hospital in Gujarat confirmed that Sudiksha had Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), a critical heart condition requiring immediate intervention.
Feeling overwhelmed by the diagnosis and the significant cost of treatment, Sudiksha’s father fell into despair. With his modest income of Rs 200-300 a day and the family’s financial strain from living in a rented house, the cost of surgery, estimated at 2 lakhs, seemed insurmountable. Fortunately, a relative working at Apollo Hospital in Delhi suggested they seek assistance from the Child Heart Foundation (CHF). With a glimmer of hope, Sudiksha’s family brought her to CHF.
At the foundation, her diagnosis was confirmed, and she was enrolled in the CHF HRIDAAN program, which provided critical financial support for underprivileged children with congenital heart disease. Sudiksha was admitted to Apollo Hospital on June 17, 2024, and underwent the PDA closure procedure on June 18, 2024.
She was discharged on June 21, 2024. Post-surgery, Sudiksha attended three follow-up appointments and showed remarkable improvement. She was fine and continued to get better each day. Her parents were overjoyed and deeply grateful to CHF and the generous donors who had made this life-saving procedure possible. They expressed heartfelt thanks for the support that had given their little angel a new lease on life. Every contribution had made a significant impact on Sudiksha's recovery, and her family celebrated her newfound health with immense relief and gratitude.
