Pt. Awaan

A Young Fighter’s Heartwarming Journey

Six-month-old MD. Awaan from North West Delhi belonged to the family of Mohd. Adnan and Nikhat Parveen. Two generations of family history in them revealed no history of heart disease, yet the diagnosis of Awaan had a large inlet VSD with perimembranous extension, one that was deemed severe enough to warrant immediate surgical closure. Despite a peak gradient of 18-20 mmHg and left-to-right shunting, his fragile heart needed repair-and not an affordable one-at an estimated Rs. 3.5 lakhs.

A professional tailor, Mohd. Adnan could hardly make ends meet for his family of seven. With no savings in hand, he could not even think of saving for his two children studying at government schools for such a major surgery. It was referred to us from Sanjay Gandhi Hospital when they approached the Child Heart Foundation for help.

Thanks to the CSR efforts of CHF with its Hridaan Program, and IRFC, Indian Railway Finance Corporation the family burden has been taken away from Awaan. He was admitted to Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, Jasola on July 10, 2024. His surgery was done on July 11, 2024. After one week of recovery, he was discharged on July 17, 2024.

The surgery has proven to be successful for Awaan. It has strengthened hopes for a brighter future for the family. Awaan's parents are pretty thankful to CHF and IRFC for stepping into this small fellow's life with a helping hand to make him live a healthy and happy life.
