Born on 5th November 2024, little Vrinda appeared healthy and was discharged after birth without any concerns. But soon, her parents noticed that she frequently spat out milk during feeding. Worried about their newborn daughter, they consulted a local doctor.
What followed was something no parent is ever prepared to hear.
After further tests, including an ECG and Echocardiography, Vrinda was diagnosed with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) at only 21 days old.
Her family immediately began searching for treatment. They visited PGI Chandigarh and AIIMS Delhi, hoping to find a solution. However, the long waiting periods left them heartbroken. With every passing day, they feared losing precious time.
Determined to save their daughter, the family approached Apollo Hospital, where Dr. Vikas Kohli carefully evaluated Vrinda's condition. She was diagnosed with a Large Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), a serious heart defect that required urgent surgery.
The estimated cost of treatment was ₹4 lakhs—an amount far beyond the reach of her family.
Vrinda's father, a freelance photographer, refused to give up. He worked tirelessly and managed to arrange ₹2.5 lakhs despite the financial challenges. The remaining amount was generously supported by ABB, ensuring that money would not stand in the way of Vrinda's chance to live a healthy life.
On 17th May 2025, little Vrinda underwent successful VSD Closure Surgery.
For her parents, those hours outside the operation theatre felt endless. Every prayer, every hope, and every dream rested on the tiny heart of their daughter.
Their prayers were answered.
The surgery was successful, and on 22nd May 2025, Vrinda was discharged from the hospital.
Today, Vrinda is doing well. She has completed two healthy follow-up visits and has returned home to Uttarakhand with her family. The little girl who once fought for every heartbeat now has the opportunity to grow, play, laugh, and dream like every child deserves.
Her journey reminds us that when timely medical care, compassionate support, and determination come together, even the toughest challenges can be overcome.
At Child Heart Foundation, we are grateful to be part of stories like Vrinda's—stories that transform fear into hope and give children a second chance at life.
